The brand's story

Founded in Japan by Shigesato Itoi, a celebrated copywriter, essayist and creative figure, Hobonichi originally grew out of his online publication Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun, “Itoi's almost-daily newspaper”. From this editorial and creative world, the brand developed a unique approach to stationery, where writing, everyday life, culture and creativity come together naturally.

The Hobonichi Techo was first created by the Hobonichi team with one simple idea in mind: to design a planner they would want to use themselves. That is how it came into being in 2001. It has since become one of the most iconic Japanese planners in the world, with users in more than 100 countries and regions and cumulative sales of over 10 million copies.

The Hobonichi Techo collection

More than just a planner, it is an everyday companion: a space to organise your time, write, draw, gather your thoughts, record your memories and document daily life. The Hobonichi Techo is made from Tomoe River paper, a remarkably thin yet strong Japanese paper, prized by stationery lovers for its smooth feel and its excellent compatibility with fountain pens.

Each notebook is designed to open flat at 180 degrees, so you can write, draw and use the whole page comfortably. Original (A6) and Cousin (A5) for a page a day, Weeks for a weekly view in a wallet-sized format, Day-Free with no dates: the formats complement each other.

A new collection every year

Every year, the collection is renewed with new covers, new formats and new accessories, often created in collaboration with artists, illustrators, designers and figures from the world of culture. This annual rhythm makes each Hobonichi launch a highly anticipated moment for stationery lovers around the world.

For many years, Hobonichi has been among the Japanese brands most requested by our retailers. Robinson has distributed the collection in Europe since September 2026: pre-orders in June, delivery of the 2027 collection in September, then restock windows on the B2B portal.
