Yokkaichi ceramics

Petari makes its pieces in Yokkaichi, in Mie Prefecture, the birthplace of banko ceramics. A heat-resistant clay, withstanding 650 °C, which goes from open flame to oven, microwave and radiant hob. Each piece is glazed by hand: slight variations in colour are normal and do not affect use.

Two complementary pieces, in three colours – Jet Black, Mud Stone and Igneous Rock: the Rice Pot, which makes rice the centrepiece of the table, and the Shallow Pot, which brings more flavour to every vegetable dish. Winner of the Good Design Award 2024.

Rice Pot, the rice cooker

Round and compact, the Rice Pot cooks the rice and serves it. The heat of the clay spreads slowly: between 40 and 60 °C, the rice's amylase breaks down starch into sugar, and because clay conducts heat more slowly than metal or an electric cooker, the rice spends longer in this range and comes out softer and sweeter.

No seasoning needed before first use, thanks to a low-absorption glaze. Water-level marks for one or two cups save measuring; the thick, precisely fitted lid does away with the need for an inner lid. Wash the rice in the pot, leave to soak for 30 minutes, cook over a medium heat, turn off the heat when bubbles appear at the edge of the lid, then leave to rest for 20 minutes. The pot can then go in the fridge and the microwave.

  • Ø 250 mm (165 mm inside) · height 120 mm
  • Marks for 1 and 2 cups of white rice
  • Open flame, oven, microwave, radiant hob

Shallow Pot, the shallow casserole

The Shallow Pot is a shallow, plate-shaped casserole designed for vegetables: cut them to the size of the pot, roast them gently, cover. The flat body and thick lid radiate infrared heat from above and below, for a tender, moist texture; the tight-fitting lid keeps in the flavours. With no handle, it goes straight from the stove to the table.

Three diameters for three uses: 18 cm (0.4 L) for a single serving, a warm salad or reheating leftovers in the microwave; 24 cm (1 L) for the morning's seasonal vegetables, a pasta dish or a risotto, a side for two; 30 cm (2 L) for a main course for three to four people and for larger gatherings.

  • 18 cm · inner Ø 150 mm · h 40 mm · 0.4 L
  • 24 cm · inner Ø 200 mm · h 45 mm · 1 L
  • 30 cm · inner Ø 250 mm · h 60 mm · 2 L

From stove to table

The difference between the two pieces lies in their shape: the Rice Pot, tall and closed, holds in heat and steam to cook rice; the Shallow Pot, wide and low, roasts, steams and simmers, then sits in the middle of the table as a serving dish.

The two complement each other every day: rice on one side, vegetables on the other, and the same simple gesture, with no extra utensils, from the stove to the fridge.
